How to find weight loss motivation.

Weight loss motivation is a key factor that I wish someone had told me about when I first started trying to lose weight. I have never been fat, but I am overweight. There are times I am in the mood to lose weight, and then there are other times that I just do not care at all. I am very happy with the way that I look, so my motivation was never to look better or be happier with what I see in the mirror. My weight loss motivation has really changed over the years, but I never knew it. I never really knew why I would want to lose weight, I would just kind of set out to do it. Most of you are probably thinking, I want to lose weight because I want to feel better about myself. Let me tell you right now, this is a motivation that will never fully work.

I want to feel better about myself.

This is something I hear from women all of the time. I am just not happy with the way I look. They want to look skinny and look weight loss motivationgood for their husbands. This might be enough to help you lose weight, but it will never be enough to make you happy. Then you have to consider, what if even after you lose all that weight you are still not happy. Because if you can’t learn to love yourself for who you are and love yourself no matter how you look, then you will truly never be happy. You need to love yourself because you are you. Love yourself because you are a person, and you are worth loving. Love yourself because God loves you. Love yourself because Jesus loved you enough to come and die for you. You are so worth loving. Stop trying to convince yourself that if you were skinnier you would be happier, because you might be for awhile, but it won’t last.

How to love the skin you are in.

Loving the skin you are in can definitely be a daunting task for some. If you have had a past where someone in your life was always telling you that you weren’t good enough or not pretty enough, then this will be an uphill battle. For me, I would tell you that the first step is really believing that God, your creator, loves you. He made you perfect the way you are. Wanting to be healthy is a good thing, but know that even in your unhealthy state He still loves you. You just have to tell yourself that you are worth it. Look in the mirror every day and say it. Put up notes on your walls that say. I am going to love who I am because it is who I was made to be. There really is no magic solution I can give you for on how to do this, but I can give you some helpful tips that I think will work.

  1. Pray:

    • Ask God to show you how much he loves you, and what he thinks of you. Ask him to show you what he was thinking of when he created you and why he created you the way that he did.
  2. Surround yourself with positive influences:

    • Do not put yourself around people that will just cut you down, but also don’t put yourself around people who just tell you what you want to hear. You need to have real people around you that love you. When you know someone is real with you, then you will actually believe it when they tell you they love you for who you are.
  3. Be you!

    • Be who you are. Live your life out loud. If you are overweight, underweight, short, tall, just be you. You don’t have to be loud to live your life out loud. To live your life out loud means to say the things that you need to say. Do the things you need to do. If you are not real with the world then you definitely won’t be real with yourself.

Finding the right type of weight loss motivation.

So now that we have clarified what is not good weight loss motivation, let’s talk about the good kind. One thing that has been on my mind these last couple of years is kids. Zach and I do not have kids yet, but we are wanting to try here within the next couple of years. I am always thinking about how if I am not healthy when I am pregnant, how that can affect my baby. I am also thinking about how I want to be able to do all the fun things you do when kids are young that you have to be in shape for. It’s hard to chase your kids around the park when you can’t breathe or you can’t bend over to grab them.

Weight loss motivation has to come from somewhere deeper than appearance.

Appearance is a shallow subject. We think a lot of times it is the reason we are so miserable, but it is only the surface. What is it that makes you want to lose weight? Is it so you can live longer? Is it so you can enjoy different activities that you can’t when you are unhealthy? Don’t make it about appearance.

So how do I find my motivation?

It’s very simple really, just ask yourself why do I want to be healthy? Try to keep the word weight loss out of it. Today our mind weight loss motivationgoes straight to how we look when we think of weight loss instead of just being healthy. Why do you want to be healthier? I think a great answer would be because you are worth it. I think sometimes we look at being healthy or weight loss as a punishment, when really this is a privilege. This is a good thing for you and for your body. To lose weight and get healthy is loving yourself. Eating unhealthy and becoming obese is not loving yourself. You are worth it to eat the good foods that make you feel better. You are worth it to work out and get in shape so you can live a long healthy life with your spouse and your kids.
