Will workout videos actually help me?
This is a question I have heard a lot from people when we are talking about working out. I am a big promoter for people who can’t afford it, to not try to get a gym membership, but to just work out from home. My blog on Forget Your Gym Membership | 4 Other Ways to Stay in Shape includes some helpful tips on how you can buy some at home equipment for really cheap. In this post I am going to talk to you about workout videos that you can do from home and that can help you lose weight.
Why the gym?
Let’s be honest, most people who go to the gym are people who are already in shape. Some of them like the community of finding others who share the same interest that they do, and others just like to show off their muscles. For someone who is not in shape, the gym can be a scary and intimidating thing. I am not against a gym membership at all. I have had several gym memberships, but I grew up an athlete so I have been in shape for the majority of my life. The people I am talking to are not a fan of the gym, they are not in shape and have probably have never been. You don’t want to go to the gym because you don’t want people to make fun of you, or you just have no idea what you would even do there.
Don’t spend money you don’t have.
Gym memberships can be very pricey nowadays. If you don’t have the money to pay for a gym membership, then just don’t do it. There are plenty of ways you can lose weight and stay in shape at home and outside. You just have to get creative. I think another reason the gym is good is because it can give you some accountability. A lot of people are paying a lot of money, so they want to make sure they get your money’s worth. However, I have met people who have gym memberships and NEVER go. Be smart about this. A healthy lifestyle should be something that accommodates you, not something that adds more stress to your life. If it is stressful for you to pay another $50 a month, don’t get a gym membership. If driving to a gym that is 15 minutes away from you is too much time out of your day, then don’t go!
You can pretty much work out anywhere.
The world is your gym. There are literally so many things around us that can be used for working out. Here is a great video you can use to give you some ideas for working out outside. Now living in Oklahoma, the weather here is only nice probably 2 weeks out of the year. The rest of the year it is blistering hot, freezing cold, or the wind is blowing a million miles an hour. You think I’m exaggerating but I’m not. It is awful. Never move to Oklahoma if you can help it. For those of you who live in Oklahoma and love the weather, come talk to me when you have lived either in Southern California or Colorado. For me working out outside is very rarely an option, so I have had to find other ways to workout from home.
My home workouts.
Working out at home can be fun, but it can also become boring if you don’t add some variety. Running on the treadmill and doing pushups and sit ups only keep your interest for so long. This is why I started venturing out into workout videos. One of my favorite videos incorporates cardio, weights, and pilates. You can check it out here. I did this video for a full month straight and it definitely helped me lose 15 pounds and it sculpted my booty. Another video I enjoy working out with is this one. It is high cardio! Let me tell you, it has me breathing hard in about 30 seconds. These are just a couple of the free videos I use. You can find so many on Youtube to use.
There are some videos that you can pay for that will work as well. This is only if you have the budget to pay for them. One workout series that my husband and I love is T-25. It has high cardio, along with body weight exercises that can get you super lean. My husband, of course, saw results way before I did, but I definitely could notice a difference in my shape. Another program that I have started paying for is Kayla Itsines Sweat App. This app is $20.00 a month, but it is still cheaper than your gym memberships. This app not only gives you exercises to do, but it also gives you a meal planner, grocery list, and it connects you to a community that you can use for accountability and encouragement. I have literally just began this app, so I will give you more details after I have used it for awhile. So far the workouts have kicked my butt!
In my opinion, workout videos are great! The best part is, you have so much variety to chose from today. You don’t have to sit there and wonder what kind of workout you should do, and you don’t have to worry about feeling insecure or out of place in a gym setting. I am by no means telling you to never get a gym membership, I am just trying to give you a way to still get healthy and be in shape if you are just not quite ready for that gym life yet. My hope is that this encourages you that you can work out anywhere, and that it is possible for anyone to live a healthy lifestyle whether than can afford a gym membership or not!
